RESEARCH USE
Where Crossref Metadata Search fits
Crossref Metadata Search can locate member-deposited bibliographic records from a title, author, publication, or DOI. The REST API supports structured retrieval and filtering when a larger set is needed. Before citing a record, check the publisher source for authorship, date, version, corrections, or retraction status, and retain the query and access date.
Research tasks
- Find or check a DOI for a research output
- Retrieve normalized title, author, venue, and date metadata
- Query and filter Crossref metadata through the REST API
What to evaluate before use
- Crossref primarily holds metadata deposited by members and trusted sources, not the full text. Fields can be incomplete or change when depositors update them.
- A DOI or indexed record is not an assessment of research quality and does not establish that full text is freely available.
