RESEARCH USE
Where JabRef fits
JabRef maintains BibTeX or BibLaTeX libraries and can import records from identifiers, online catalogues, or its browser extension before normalizing fields and citation keys. Check DOIs, authors, years, and entry types against authoritative records, version the library file, and test output with the target LaTeX style.
Research tasks
- Maintain BibTeX and BibLaTeX reference libraries
- Retrieve metadata from DOI, PubMed, arXiv, and related sources
- Insert and format citations in LaTeX, Word, or LibreOffice workflows
What to evaluate before use
- Metadata obtained from external catalogues can be incomplete or inconsistent. Automatically fetched and deduplicated records require comparison with publisher or authoritative sources.
- JabRef 6 offers optional AI features through external or local model providers. Assess API cost, provider privacy terms, and transmitted text separately before enabling them.
